ASM-AO  Chemistry & Metallurgy Research Facility Replacement (CMRR) Project

CMRR Project:

Nuclear Facility (NF)

Nuclear Facility The Nuclear Facility (NF) portion of the CMRR has been developed as the critical element providing the requisite Hazard Category 2, Security Category 1 space to meet NNSA mission needs. The current scope definition for the NF calls for a single-building facility layout with approximately 22,500 net square feet of laboratory space. The facility will house Hazard Category II actinide chemistry/materials characterization and actinide R&D operations, Special Nuclear Material storage vaults, and large-vessel handling capabilities, all located behind perimeter fences at TA-55.  The facility will house approximately 306 enclosures with 26 fume hoods and 43 sections of Material Transfer System (MTS).

The NF will be designed and constructed to meet all applicable nuclear and safety requirements.  Preliminary design work for the Nuclear Facility has been completed.  Construction is scheduled to begin in 2009 and is expected to be complete by 2014.
